AdBlue, also known as AUS 32, is a Water / Urea mixture , allowing the reduction of the volume of nitrogen oxides which escapes from the exhaust pipes of diesel vehicles.
Biodegradable, water soluble, colorless and classified as a non-hazardous product, this mixture is composed of 67.5% demineralized water and 32.5% high purity urea.
Warning ! It is not a carburizing additive since it must not be mixed with diesel, it is stored in a separate tank, with a specific system allowing the transformation, by chemical reaction, of the majority of nitrogen oxides. (NOx) (very powerful greenhouse gas) in nitrogen carbon dioxide and water vapor. The AdBlue is sent to the exhaust pipe upstream of the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). Under the effect of heat, urea is transformed into carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH 3 ). Inside the SCR, a chemical reaction occurs between ammonia (NH 3 ) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) released by the engine.
This gives water vapor (H 2 O) and nitrogen (N 2 ), harmless gases.
The SCR systems being very sensitive to the impurities potentially present in the mixture, it is essential to validate an optimal quality of this product.
The quality criteria are described in the ISO 22241 standard, which consists of 4 sections:
• ISO 22241-1: Quality requirements,
