IDENTIFICATION OF TYPICAL SILICONE OIL POLLUTION BY PYROLYSIS / GCMS

At high temperature in the pyrojector, the polysiloxanes generate cyclosiloxanes (D3 to D30 according to the analytical system). For example, a PolyDiMethylSiloxane or PMDS will generate mainly
Cyclotrisiloxane, hexamethyl- or D3;
Cyclotetrasiloxane, octamethyl- or D4;
Cyclopentasiloxane, decamethyl- or D5 ... etc ...
The fact of finding these pyrolytic tracer moieties in the pyrogram of a residue or pollution, is enough to sign probably the presence of a Polysiloxane matrix or "Silicone".
