Search for irritating compounds in RJ45 cords


This involves looking for and quantifying potentially irritating molecules* using different analysis techniques on a pallet of boxes of RJ45 cords from a country outside the EU. Indeed, during the handling of the inconveniences alerted the health services.

Analytical protocol:

The various possibly irritating molecules will be analyzed according to their nature (organic, ionic, etc. ) and their volatility:

  • Analysis by HS-GCMS will allow the identification of ultra-volatile organic molecules present in the sample (COUV <350 g / mol).
  • Analysis by GCMS will allow the identification of volatile organic molecules present in the sample (VOC - 100 <Mw <620 g / mol).
  • Analysis by UPLC/TOF-MS will allow the identification of semi-volatile and ionic organic molecules present in the sample (100 <Mw <2500 g / mol).

→ The analyzes carried out on all the parts of the sample (bead, PE bag, cardboard, film) mainly show compounds of the Adjuvants for polymers type (plasticizers, slip agents, etc.) as well as more volatile degradation products such as Nonanal [124-19-6] present in large quantities and which could be the source of annoyance such as irritation.
